Ochsner Health – Sports Medicine | Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute
Ochsner Health is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician to expand our innovative sports medicine program, with a focus on Women’s Sports Medicine.
In this role, you will provide comprehensive, non-operative sports medicine care, while helping to develop and lead a multidisciplinary Women’s Sports Program supporting active individuals and athletes across the lifespan—from youth and adolescent athletes to collegiate, professional, and adult recreational populations.
This position is associated with the Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute, the premier sports medicine program in the Gulf South, with primary practice location at Elmwood and additional sites across the greater New Orleans region.
About the Program
Our comprehensive sports medicine program serves athletes of all levels and includes partnerships with professional teams such as the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans, as well as extensive outreach to youth and school-based athletics. The program is supported by more than 60 athletic trainers and a full continuum of care.
Through our partnership with Andrews Medicine (Dr. James Andrews), Ochsner continues to expand excellence in patient care, research, and education across Louisiana and Mississippi.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care (Non-Operative)
- Provide comprehensive primary care sports medicine services, including:
- Musculoskeletal evaluation and management
- Injury prevention, diagnosis, and rehabilitation
- Ultrasound-guided procedures
- Concussion management and return-to-play protocols
- Deliver longitudinal care to active patients and athletes of all ages
Women’s Sports Program Development
- Lead and expand a comprehensive Women’s Sports Medicine Program, including:
- Female athlete health and performance optimization
- Bone health and stress injury prevention
- Women’s health and performance considerations
- Pregnancy and postpartum return-to-exercise guidance
- Collaborate with orthopedics, OB/GYN, endocrinology, nutrition, and mental health specialists to deliver integrated care
- Develop clinical pathways and best practices tailored to female athletes
Program Development
- Partner with regional leadership to grow a dynamic, multidisciplinary sports medicine program across the Southeast region
- Build referral networks and expand access to sports medicine services, particularly for female athletes and underserved populations
Academic & Teaching
- Participate in teaching and mentorship of:
- Primary Care Sports Medicine fellows
- Residents and medical students
- Opportunities for academic appointment and collaboration with affiliated medical schools
- Engage in clinical research, particularly in areas related to women’s sports medicine and performance
Collaborative Team-Based Care
- Work within a multidisciplinary sports medicine team, including:
- Orthopedic surgeons
- Physical therapists
- Athletic trainers
- Strength and conditioning specialists
- Sports dietitians and mental health providers
- Coordinate care across the full continuum of sports medicine services
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Develop and maintain partnerships with:
- Youth and school-based athletics
- Collegiate programs
- Community fitness and wellness organizations
- Serve as a sports medicine resource and advocate for female athletes in the region
- Provide educational outreach to athletes, coaches, and parents
Youth & School-Based Athletics
- Serve as a medical liaison for school and team partnerships, including:
- Pre-participation physicals and screenings
- Sideline/event coverage (as applicable)
- Injury prevention education and training
Personalized Athlete Care
- Create individualized treatment plans that integrate:
- Medical care
- Rehabilitation
- Performance optimization
- Support return-to-play and long-term health outcomes for a diverse athlete population
