Job Summary:
The Xavier University of Louisiana Physician Assistant Program is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor of Didactic Education. This twelve-month faculty position begins in August 2025. The primary teaching responsibilities include Clinical Medicine I, II, and III. The ideal candidate will possess at a minimum a Master's degree as a Physician Assistant, a Doctor of Medicine (MD or DO), or a Ph.D. in a related discipline. The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and advising graduate students. Faculty in the Physician Assistant Program are expected to provide high-quality instruction, offer academic advising, actively contribute to the program's development, and show a strong commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
Duties:
In conjunction with the Program Director and Director of Didactic Education to implement, coordinate, and design a rigorous didactic curriculum that supports student professional development.
Serve as a course instructor in areas of expertise and contribute to the development of instructional materials in evidence-based practice and research.
Develop, maintain, and oversee clinical assessment and integration courses within the didactic phase in alignment with ARC-PA Standards.
Participate in accreditation activities, documentation, and the implementation of quality assurance measures related to didactic education.
Assist in developing course syllabi, learning outcomes, and student assessments.
Plan and manage clinical assessments of didactic-phase students, including practical exams and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).
Evaluate student performance and monitor academic progress.
Engage in scholarly activity, including research and active involvement in state and/or national professional organizations.
Assist in reviewing and annually updating the Student Handbook.
Participate in student recruitment, applicant screening, interviews, admissions decisions, and service on the Curriculum Committee.
Provide academic counseling, advising, and mentoring to students. Ensure the availability of remedial instruction as needed.
Serve on the Academic Progression Committee to support continuous program assessment.
Participate in college and university committees and attend related events.
Maintain clinical competency and stay current with best practices in the profession.
Collaborate with the Director of Didactic Education to ensure a seamless transition from the didactic to clinical phase of the program.

Required Qualifications:
For candidates with a PA, MD, DO, or Ph.D. credential, a minimum of three years of clinical experience is preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to current trends in physician assistant education.
Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.
High level of professionalism, leadership, and diplomacy, with the ability to manage complex projects independently and seek guidance when appropriate.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, internet-based applications, and other relevant software tools.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff.
Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously under fluctuating workloads and tight deadlines, with a strong commitment to accuracy and efficiency.

Prior faculty experience in a Physician Assistant (PA) program is preferred but not required.
Experience with the ARC-PA accreditation process is a strong plus.
Familiarity with university- or department-specific applications and systems is preferred.
Graduate of an ARC-PA-accredited Physician Assistant program.
Possession of a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
Current NCCPA certification and eligibility for licensure in the State of Louisiana (for PA candidates).
Currently licensed allopathic or osteopathic physician (for DO candidates).
Board certification by an ABMS- or AOA-approved specialty board in Louisiana (for MD/DO candidates).
