Position Summary
St. George’s is seeking an experienced math teacher to join our Middle School Math Department. The successful candidate will also possess leadership skills and would be considered as a possible Mathematics Department Chair.
The Middle School Math Department at St. George’s consists of three full-time teachers who expertly enact our model of three leveled groupings to ensure a personalized learning approach that both challenges and supports every student, fostering confidence and continuous progress in mathematics. The above-grade-level section stresses guided inquiry and problem solving with students working towards high school algebra credit by the 8th grade year. The grade-level section is taught with a blend of guided inquiry and direct instruction to conduct class discussions and present new material. Although the curriculum planning goal is to teach the adjusted/modified sections at a level close to or on grade level, the teacher of this section must emphasize foundational skills in lesson planning for these students, who typically have mild to moderate learning disabilities. In addition, planning for ongoing review and the development of good study skills are essential features in planning for instruction in the adjusted/modified math classes. Further, the teacher of the adjusted/modified level will collaborate with colleagues from the St. George’s Resource Services Department in order to facilitate growth in mathematical achievement for students who also receive ongoing support from learning specialists. Although all three math teachers must collaborate with colleagues, this ability is especially critical for the teacher of the adjusted/modified math courses.
