Position Summary: The Assistant Athletic Director & Director, Sports Medicine, in collaboration with senior leadership and the team physician, oversees the daily operations of all athletic trainers employed by Tulane University. They will assist in the development and implementation of Athletic training policies and procedures, including emergency action plans, rehabilitation plans, sport coverage assignments, and administrative duty assignment. They will be responsible for the prevention of injuries to student-athletes in their assigned sports, as well as collaboration with athletic trainers in other sports programs. Additional responsibilities of the position include, administering first-aid and emergency medical care; diagnosing/treating injuries and providing rehabilitation according to authorized medical directions, overseeing, supervising and evaluating athletic training staff and graduate assistants; overseeing the maintenance of complete, accurate, and detailed medical records for all student athletes; preparing and monitoring all medical supplies and equipment budgets; assisting in or directing sports camps as requested or required, and performing other related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions of the Job:
1. Function: Needs Assessments/Injury Prevention/Medical Treatment and Rehabilitation - Responsible for the prevention, assessment, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries to student-athletes in the sports programs, as assigned; oversees the prevention, assessment, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries to student-athletes; develops written policies and procedures, in collaboration with administration and the team physician, regarding emergency management, treatment and reconditioning of injuries for athletes including the annual review and update of established procedures; reviews, updates and revises administrative, clinical and operational policies, procedures and protocols for the Athletic Training Center; develops and recommends safe methods for preventing injuries and providing long-term reconditioning programs as necessary; organizes Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and associated duties of staff in the event of an emergency situation at an athletic venue on campus; consults with local emergency response teams in establishing Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for each athletic venue; serves as the liaison with the assigned sports staff in regard to student-athlete care; attends regular staff meetings to provide status updates on student-athlete care, issues, etc.; coordinates and schedules injury and/or illness treatments with team physicians or other medical service providers.as needed for assigned sport student-athletes. Oversees the same activities for student athletes in other sports programs, as assigned; in collaboration with other athletic training staff, coordinates provisions for student athletics’ medical treatment, rehabilitation, and other related services with independent health care professionals, as needed; oversees management of the training room in the Hertz Center; and coordinates scheduled use of the Hertz Center athletic training room as well as staff coverage for all assigned sports program activities. (55%)
2. Function: Supervision/Leadership Training and Development - Oversees, directs and schedules the day-to-day activities of the athletic training staff; recruits, guides, trains and evaluates graduate assistants in the performance of their duties; coordinates athletic training schedules and personnel to provide adequate medical coverage for practices, events and contests; monitors licensure and certification requirements for professional staff and service providers to ensure full compliance with established policies and procedures; fully participates in all aspects of the employment recruitment/selection/on-boarding processes for new-hire staff. Supervises and oversees the daily work activities of assigned staff; and conducts staff performance evaluations; provides direct reports with guidance and counseling; training and mentorship as needed to maximize their work productivity, enhance their job performance, and assist them in identifying professional development opportunities to both grow and advance their careers within the organization. (30%)
3. Function: Records Retention/Reports/Budgets - Oversees the maintenance of complete, accurate, and detailed medical records for all student athlete injuries; maintains a secure, accessible system of confidential medical records in accordance with applicable standards of practice and state and Federal laws; prepares budget and monitors expenditures for athletic first-aid, medical supplies and equipment. Fully participates in all budget planning meetings; prepares and submits financial reports, as required; and ensures an appropriate inventory of medical supplies, equipment and medications; including appropriate storage, security and maintenance of inventory. (10%)
4. Function: Other Duties - Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director, Sports Performance. (5%)
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited professional athletic training education program
5 years of experience as a certified athletic trainer
NATABOC certification
Louisiana-LSBME licensure at date of hire
Current CPR/First Aid/Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Certification
Must have a valid and unrestricted (not including corrective lens needs) U.S. Driver’s license and must meet the Tulane University Motor Vehicle Policy criteria to become authorized as a driver.

Ability to administer first-aid and emergency medical care; ability to treat injuries and provide rehabilitation according to authorized medical directions.
Excellent budget management skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures
Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or other relevant field of study
Previous Athletic Training Experience in Division I Intercollegiate Athletics
NCAA Related: Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
