Xavier University of Louisiana is seeking to hire an Academic Advisor in the Student Academic Success Office. Reporting to the Director for Academic Success, the advisor provides individualized and group advising to students, with an emphasis on supporting students who are exploratory, academically high-risk, athletes, and those on academic probation.
The Academic Advisor will also serve as an Academic Coach for the CARE Program, which provides first year, first generation students with connected opportunities to prepare, perform, and progress during their time at Xavier.
Xavier University of Louisiana is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and who have demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for disadvantaged and first-generation students. AA/EOE
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in counseling and guidance, college student personnel, educational administration, student affairs, or related field.
Two years of academic advising experience, retention, or counseling services (must have at least one year in a higher education environment in a full-time advising capacity).
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders (students, colleagues, administrators), both verbally and in writing.
Must possess diplomacy, confidentiality, and strong relationship-building skills.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, especially with students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree preferred, with two years of academic advising experience, retention, or counseling services (with at least one year in a higher education environment in a full time advising).
Experience presenting to students and facilitating workshops.
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.
Excellent oral, written communication skills, and organizational skills.
