Holy Cross School is an independent, Catholic, college preparatory school founded in 1849 by the Congregation of Holy Cross to educate young men in the greater New Orleans community. Holy Cross is fully approved by the Louisiana State Department of Education and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as a college preparatory school for boys in grades PK-12.
Position Overview:
The President is responsible for the overall vision, leadership, and management of Holy Cross School and reports to the School’s Board of Directors. The President serves as an effective ambassador for the mission, goals, and values of the School. The President executes upon the School’s mission as an effective leader and spokesperson, and infuses the School’s mission, cause, and values into every aspect of the School’s constituency aiming to have a contagious effect on the School community. The President serves the needs of the School in a highly professional manner and is directly responsible for the external affairs of the School, ensuring sufficient resources, sound fiscal management, and the financial stability of the School. The President leads with integrity and fosters collaboration within and across disciplines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Vision and Purpose
Connect joyfully and genuinely with all constituents of the School, especially the extensive alumni network.
Act as an outward facing “institutional builder” – a fundraiser, friend raiser, excitement builder, vision-setter, and overall face of the School to the community.
Communicate a compelling and inspired vision and sense of purpose.
Maintain a culture of integrity, high ethical standards, values, accountability, and performance.
Articulate the unique traditions that Holy Cross offers in the New Orleans area, including the distinct qualities of the student experience at Holy Cross.
School Viability
Engage in collaborative dialogue with and maintain a positive, ongoing relationship with the School’s leadership team, Board of Directors, and the Congregation of Holy Cross who take seriously the role of oversight over their sponsored schools.
Maintain an annual fundraising plan that will lead to consistent and increased giving to Holy Cross.
Engage alumni, volunteers, staff, and donors to increase effectiveness and impact of annual giving.
Oversee budget and use a high level of financial analysis to forecast financial trends and growth and ensure proper fiscal management and budgeting.
Effectively manage and balance resources and operations within the organization to grow revenue and contributions and control costs.
Empower and guide staff leaders on the successful financial operation of facilities.
Leading Others
Develop and lead direct reports and empower staff.
Remain actively engaged in staff development and performance to drive superior results among fundraising, parent satisfaction, student success and constituency engagement.
Lead and encourage the team by creating a spirit of inclusiveness, camaraderie, and mission.
Work with the Board of Directors to establish best practices to recruit, develop and engage volunteer members.
Operating Performance
Work with the Board of Directors to develop an annual tactical plan for achieving key school goals and objectives.
Remain fully informed of all operational issues and quickly address any issues that might arise.
Forecast and anticipate future needs.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Practicing Catholic who will embrace and promote the Catholic and Holy Cross identity of the School while modeling those values in his/her daily practice.
Master’s Degree with Education Administration preferred.
10+ years of leadership experience.
Proven track record to drive successful organizational outcomes/results.
Proven ability to operate in a highly visible leadership role.
Proven experience allocating and managing funds.
Highly skilled at organizing and leading teams.
Ability to navigate complex organizational needs.
Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
Strong business acumen.
Ability to communicate effectively in a wide variety of genres and settings, both internal and external facing.
Willingness to travel and go above and beyond essential job responsibilities.
