Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a tenure track position in Counseling in the Division of Education and Counseling at the assistant professor level beginning Fall 2024. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision.
The ideal candidate is expected to teach effectively at the graduate level, advise master's level students, have evidence of ongoing research activity, contributions to professional associations, program development, and the potential to secure external funding to support research, as well as serve on division, college, and university committees. Applications are encouraged from candidates with experience and/or interest in coordinating the practicum & internship experience for graduate students. Candidates applying for the position must hold a doctorate from a CACREP accredited program and be license eligible in the State of Louisiana. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to cultural diversity and social justice, including the ability to work effectively with diverse populations and to teach courses that integrate culturally diverse content.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Professor of Counseling (tenure-track) will:
Teach a 3-3 load for the Fall and Spring semesters;
Demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring graduate scholars;
Write and Speak English proficiently;
Demonstrate excellence in research, with potential for securing external funding;
Establish a research agenda, publishing in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals related to counselor education;
Participate in service activities and roles for the department, university, and community; and
Participate in on-campus department, division, college, and university meetings and assemblies, as well as university convocations and graduation.
Minimum Qualifications:
A doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP accredited program;(degree must be conferred by the start of the appointment);
Experience providing counseling services;
Eligible for state licensure as an LPC;
Professionally identifies primarily as a counselor educator;
Conduct ongoing, independent research resulting in scholarly publications and/or successful grant proposals;
Commitment to academic advising and mentoring for masters level counseling students;
Ongoing commitment to pedagogical innovation;
Demonstrate commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population;
Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work collegially; and
Commit to service and the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced training beyond the doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision;
At least two (2) years of teaching experience at the graduate level (online and in person);
Established training, experience, and credentials as a school counselor and/or mental health counselor;
Potential or experience with university collaborative efforts involving public schools, postsecondary institutions, agencies, and/or community organizations;
Experience teaching to a diverse student body and knowledge of effective strategies (e.g. culturally responsive or inclusive pedagogy, awareness of issues that may affect the success of underserved students) supporting underrepresented groups;
Participate actively in professional, honorary, and accrediting organizations;
Experience with CACREP accreditation; and
Experience with online learning management systems (such as Brightspace, Microsoft LMS 365, etc)
