The Deputy Chief Deputy Chief for Jail Operations is expected to aid in the planning and coordination of the operations of the entire jail division.
Duties and responsibilities include maintaining the physical operation, security, and maintenance of the entire jail division through established policy and procedures. The Deputy Chief should be able to formulate policies, manage daily operations, and plan the use of materials and human resources.
Job Responsibilities • Supports the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with jail and corrections standards. • Manages the internal compliance audit process for operational and program areas. • Maintains clear and effective leadership goals and best practices relevant to OPSO policies and procedures. • Directs administrative activities directly related to OPSO jail systems. • Manages staff work schedules for effectiveness and efficiency and assign specific duties. • Addresses employee performance issues and makes recommendations for disciplinary action as necessary. • Develops training and competencies in accordance with jail and correction standards. • Coordinates financial budget activities that effectively manages facility resources. • Performs personnel functions, such as recruiting selection, training, or evaluation. • Establishes appropriate security classification and program classifications for the placement of jail residents. • Reviews, maintains and ensures the implementation of the standards for the humane treatment of jail residents as set forth in applicable administrative rules. • Establishes and implements the security procedures for effective emergency/disaster response. Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements • A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or a related field is preferred. • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in corrections is required. • A minimum of five (5) years of management and/or leadership experience in any professional environment. • Certified Jail Manager (CJM) or Certified Correctional Trainer (CCT) preferred. • Experience in direct supervision jail management. • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information in a concise way is required.
