Job Description:
The candidate as a Middle and Upper School faculty member is directly accountable to the Middle School Division Head. S(he) works with the Division Heads to ensure that the spirit and life of the school reflect the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education s(he)
Understands, embraces and implements the school’s mission and philosophy as written in the Goals and Criteria; participates in the Christ centered life of the school and models the school’s philosophy in working with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
Consults with other members of the Department, appropriate administrators, faculty and parents in order to meet specific needs of individual students and to ensure that the program reflects the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education
Assists teachers in addressing students’ varying learning need, supporting their efforts to help the students excel.
Works with faculty, staff and administration to identify students needing accommodations, reviews psycho-educational testing completed by private specialists and coordinates academic recommendations and accommodations.
Coordinates meetings with families and teachers to discuss accommodations, coordinates out of school tutors and specialists and assists students in identifying their learning styles and developing age appropriate learning strategies, study skills, and self-advocacy skills as students move from middle to high school.
Hosts bi-monthly meetings with faculty to discuss student academic progress.
Attends and participates in the following: chapels, liturgical functions, retreats, faculty/department/in-service meetings, assemblies, parent assemblies, conferences and other school functions, as requested.
Maintains professional currency by ensuring professional certification and actively participating in the professional development program (which includes opportunities for attendance at conferences, workshops and educational meetings, and for advanced degree coursework), and by regular reading of educational journals and discipline-related materials.
Agrees to fulfill the terms of the contract of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Special Education or Speech/Language Pathology
At least two years of experience working with students with learning differences in middle and/or high school
Possess a significant knowledge of learning differences and intervention strategies
Strong ability to interpret diagnostic test results and experience writing support plans
Knowledge of state and federal compliance laws and regulations
