The Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, founded in 1867, is an independent, Catholic, college-prep institution for girls offering 17 years of instruction for toddlers through twelfth grade. Academy of the Sacred Heart is one of 25 Network of Sacred Heart Schools in the United States-Canada sponsored by the Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ).
The candidate as a Middle School faculty member is directly accountable to the Middle School Division Head. S(he) works with the Division Head, Dean of Students, students and parents to ensure that the spirit and the life of the school reflect the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education.
Understands, embraces and implements the school's mission and philosophy as written in the Goals and Criteria; participates in the Christ-centered life of the school; and models the school’s philosophy in working with students, parents, colleagues and administration.
Works with the Division Head to execute responsibilities relating to the academic program: curriculum development and implementation, classroom design, classroom management, student evaluation, progress reports and parent communication.
Works with the counselors and learning specialists to aid students in achieving the maximum development and growth, both within and beyond the classroom, achieved through observation of students' behavior and needs, consultation with the counselors and referrals, when indicated.
Actively supervise as well as interact with students while on the play yard.
Plans and maintains a safe, clean learning environment and in assuring the well-being and safety of the children in his/her care.
Maintains a cooperative attitude of working together with the Division Head, colleagues, volunteers and parents in planning and implementing activities.
Attends and participates in the following: chapels, liturgical functions, retreats, faculty/department/in-service meetings, assemblies, parent assemblies, conferences and other school functions, as requested.
Maintains professional currency by yearly participation in the professional development program (which includes opportunities for attendance at conferences, workshops and educational meetings, and for advanced degree coursework) and by regular reading of educational journals discipline-related materials, and social-emotional best practices
Leads activities that build relationships in weekly advisory groups
Agrees to fulfill the terms of the contract of employment.
Teaches grades 5th-8th courses
Provide technology integration support for individual teachers, grade-level teams, and school faculty.
Provide classroom instructional support for teachers through co-teaching, modeling, providing feedback, co-planning, and developing resources.
Build awareness and generate enthusiasm for technology resources.
Utilize and model technology integration strategies to support differentiation.
Provide differentiated professional growth opportunities for staff.
Build trusting, one-to-one relationships with staff.
Assist in assessing and tracking technology skill levels of students and teachers and then use the data to develop a professional development plan for staff.
Be visible and available within the building.
Work collaboratively with the Technology department.
Stay abreast of current technology trends, teaching strategies, and educational best practices.
Assess and provide input for technology resource purchases based on teacher input.
Ability to instruct students using a variety of technology applications and platforms
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to develop relationships and maintain consistent contact with student, parents, and colleagues
Ability to support students with computer set-up, navigation, and technology issues
Works with the Technology department to provide professional development on technology platforms and devices provided to faculty/staff by the school including but not limited to: Smartboard and touch panels, Elmos, laptops, etc.
Management and distribution of Chromebooks to students
Organization and management of standardized testing
Special Knowledge Skills
Knowledge of science, STEM and coding curriculum and instructional best practices for both in-person and online learning
Strong knowledge of internet-related technology
Familiarity with additional software and hardware such as, but not limited to Tinkercad, Code Monkey, Scratch, Sphero, Cubetto, Awbie, Dash and Dot, etc.
Willingness to attend training and workshops on building an engineering/robotics curriculum and become familiar with additional software/hardware such as, but not limited to, Lego Education, Ozbot, Sprk, etc.
Supports and trains faculty on technology resources including but not limited to: online textbooks, Myschoolapp, Folio, Google Suite, Digiexam etc.
Trains students and parents on student login for emails, textbooks and systems
Assists the DH with build out and input of the schedule into MySchoolApp
Instructions for all grading and Myschoolapp
A Masters Degree in Technology, Education, or a related field + 2 years of successful teaching experience
Experience integrating technology activities into the curriculum
Ability to design effective differentiated learning activities
Excellent knowledge of educational software
Experience training teachers to utilize new software
Familiarity with Google’s educational platform
Experience with 3D printing, coding and robotics
