ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Serve as the primary strategic communications contact for assigned sports
2. Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student athletes and media members
3. Create news and feature story ideas for media and the school’s official athletic department website TulaneGreenWave.com
4. Assist with the day-to-day strategic communications
5. Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student athletes and media members
6. Manage and direct social media content for assigned sports
7. General knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite to create graphics for upcoming games and athletic events
8. Keeping statistics, maintaining program records and other duties as assigned
9. NCAA Related: Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
NOTES:
Additional Salary Information: Graduate Assistants receive up to $40,000 including tuition, fees, and a stipend. Costs cannot exceed $40k for the academic year which includes summer session(s). If the academic program is less than $40,000, you may receive a stipend of no more than $1,200 per month up to a grand total of $40,000 after tuition and fees are paid. If the academic program is more than $40,000, you will be responsible for all remaining costs above that amount.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:
Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management, Journalism, Communications or closely related field.
At least 1-2 years of experience working in athletics communications (can include student worker experience)
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student athletes and vendors
Strong organizational, management and leadership skills
Proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and social media
Proven ability to multi-task effectively
Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
Available to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends
Travel with sport teams for selected away contests
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
Through knowledge of NCAA and American Conference rules and regulations
Candidates will need to be accepted to a graduate program within the University, as well as be enrolled for the fall, spring and summer terms to receive a stipend.
