Department: Office of Residential Education Effective Date: November 14, 2022 Reports To: Director or Seniors Associate Director of Residential Education Unit: Office of Student Affairs Xavier University of Louisiana seeks a live-off professional staff member dedicated to creating an environment where students are safe, connected, and engaged in the campus community. This position is responsible for developing an educational living experience for a diverse residential population of 1700 students. The Associate Director supervises 5 graduate student hall directors who work within the residence halls and indirectly supervises 30 Resident Assistants. The primary function is to direct and oversee the community development of the residence halls including staffing, administrative, and managerial responsibilities, educational programming and staff development. The Associate Director serves as part of the central housing team, fills collateral assignments when requested, and serve in the on-call rotation providing support to paraprofessional staff and students during times of emergency and crisis. Essential duties: Assist with all housing operations (opening, closings, break periods) and assist with processing room change requests throughout the year. Act as a student conduct officer including: incident reports, conduct hearings, and sanctioning; as well as, select conduct board proceedings. Work with Guardian, the student conduct system. Serve on the Student of Concern Committee and follow up accordingly. Serve as an essential staff member in resolving operational concerns which may disrupt the normal routine of the residential community. Mediate severe or sensitive student or parent concerns and make a report of resolution to other professionals and supervisors as appropriate. Provide after-hours and weekend crisis response by assisting students experiencing elevated emotional, academic, physical, and/or interpersonal difficulties, and refer them to other professionals and supervisor when appropriate. Respond to the needs and concerns of residents and parents in an appropriate and timely manner. Serve actively on departmental and University committees and task forces as needed. Assist with weekend events and processes. Create and implement a hall government program. Create, implement, and assess a variety of living learning communities that enhance the residential experience. Knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics: Knowledge and/or experience using Microsoft Teams, Banner, THD (The Housing Director), or related housing software management program. Understanding of issues of diversity; demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity, identity, and pluralism among students and staff required. Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student programs. Strong organizational, administrative, and management skills.
Minimum qualifications: Master’s degree in higher education administration, counseling, or related field required. Two years of full-time experience in college housing and residence life program or equivalent. Graduate assistant work is considered. Experience supervising staff. Experience creating, planning, and implementing large and small scale programs. Demonstrated student organizational leadership experience. Experience working with diverse student populations. Knowledge of human and student development, group dynamics, personal computer proficiency, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred qualifications: Residence hall judicial experience. Experience creating living learning communities. Experience advising student groups.
