The Department of Chemistry at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a non-tenure track position in Chemistry at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2023. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Education; experience teaching at the undergraduate level; and a commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds.
The department is seeking an applicant who is willing to teach and serve as the General Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator.
Duties: The Lab Coordinator responsibilities include preparing solutions, reagents, equipment and maintaining orders and cleanliness of the General Chemistry Laboratory. The coordinator will also be responsible for preparing course syllabus; updating and ordering General Chemistry laboratory I and II manual; and conducting weekly meetings with all General Chemistry I and II laboratory instructors. In addition to this, the laboratory coordinator prepares the midterm and final exams for General Chemistry I and II labs. The ideal candidate will maintain awareness of best practices in General Chemistry lab instruction.

PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Education
Strong commitment to teaching twelve semester hours;
Ability to develop and teach face-to-face as well as online classes;
Ability to maintain all coordinator duties;
Develops a pedagogical project centered around the General Chemistry laboratory curriculum;
Serves as an academic advisor;
Participates in departmental professional activities;
Serves on at least one departmental committee each year; and
Demonstrates a strong potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
Ability to teach General chemistry lectures;
Experience teaching chemistry to a diverse student body and knowledge of effective strategies (e.g. culturally responsive or inclusive pedagogy, awareness of issues that may affect the success of minoritized students) supporting underrepresented groups in STEM; and
Awareness of pedagogical best practices and ongoing commitment to developing and maintaining knowledge in this area.
