Job Summary The position is responsible for managing and coaching the men's and women's cross country and track and field programs. Duties include:
Supervise and direct all aspects of our NCAA Division I men's and women's cross country and track and field programs.
Supervise the coaching staff.
Oversee the academic progress and development of student-athletes with an emphasis on progress towards graduation.
Manage the budget in a fiscally responsible manner. Raise funds as necessary to supplement the budget.
Recruit student-athletes who meet UNO admission and NCAA eligibility standards.
Oversee all aspects of our national recruiting program that seeks student-athletes who are qualified academically, athletically, and ethically.
Mentor student-athletes to include monitoring academic progress, scheduling meetings with student athletes' academic advisors, and counseling.
Oversee all aspects of preseason and regular season practice and meet preparation by conducting skill, technique, mental, and physical training to prepare for the highest level of competition.
Work in collaboration with sports medicine and strength conditioning staff to ensure the health and well-being of our student-athletes.
Assist with all aspects of the promotional and public relations activities of the program and the department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Assist in community involvement. Represent the University and the cross country, track and field programs at professional meetings, alumni events, Privateer Scholarship Fund meetings, and other events as necessary.
Represent the University of New Orleans in a positive manner at any events on or off campus.
Abide by rules and regulations of the NCAA Division I and Southland Conference.
Act in an ethical manner and comply with the standards set forth by NCAA and Southland Conference Bylaws as well as University policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
Four years of cross country or track and field experience at the intercollegiate level.
Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, Southland Conference, University of Louisiana System, and University New Orleans.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
Prior experience in executing quality events and meets in addition to upkeep of facility and equipment.
Record of accomplishment of recruiting student-athletes that contribute at a high level academically in the classroom.
Desired Qualifications
Master's degree.
Seven years of related coaching experience.
Previous head coaching experience at the intercollegiate level.
Fundraising and public relations experience.
