The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of Ochsner Health in New Orleans, LA,seeks a full-time Clinical Pathologist to fill an open position in our Transfusion Medicine Section.
The Ochsner Health Section of Transfusion Medicine provides comprehensive Transfusion Services, including a hospital-based donor center program (18,000 collections annually), complex transfusion service/reference laboratory at our 750+ bed tertiary academic medical center (and assists with oversight of our multiple community hospital blood banks), therapeutic apheresis (1000 procedures annually), and cellular therapy processing laboratory (in support for our Bone Marrow Transplant program). The Transfusion Medicine section includes one full-time and two part-time board-certified blood bank physicians.
Applicants must have an MD, MD/PhD, or DO degree, have a LA medical license upon hire and have demonstrated excellence in clinical care and education. American Board of Pathology certification in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine is required (post-fellowship experience is preferred but not required to be eligible for this position).
The Transfusion Medicine Section is accredited by the Food and Drug Administration (Donor Program), AABB, College of American Pathologists (CAP), and the Foundation for Accreditation in Cellular Therapy (FACT).
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is located at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. The Department is responsible for all laboratory functions in our community Hospitals in Louisiana (and 1 in Southern Mississippi) and Ambulatory Clinics.
Currently, the Ochsner Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has 30 pathologists and 2 PhD's, with additional growth anticipated.
As part of an academic institution, the Department supports the academic initiatives of the organization, and serves as an affiliate training site for 2 local, accredited pathology training programs. Each year, more than 291 medical residents and fellows work in 30 different Ochsner-sponsored ACGME accredited residency training programs. Ochsner also hosts more than 650 medical students, 150 advanced practice providers, 1,200 nursing students and over 600 allied health students with over 4,200 student months of education in clinical rotations annually. For the past 10 years, the Ochsner Clinical School has been partnered with The University of Queensland Medical School in Brisbane, Australia. Our unique medical school model allows Ochsner to train over 450 future doctors across two continents leveraging the strengths and resources of two world-class institutions.
