Position Summary: The Assistant Coach of Women’s Diving assists with the coaching and administrative duties of the women’s NCAA Division I diving program. This position teaches the fundamentals of diving. This position recruits prospective student-athletes and monitors the current student-athletes.
Essential Functions:
Function: Coach Diving (50%): teaches the fundamentals and techniques of diving; observes and evaluates performance and demonstrating proper techniques; executes practice plans to improve student-athletes skill level; develops a strong coach-to-athlete relationship in alignment with the head coach’s vision and philosophy; incorporates platform training once a week at off-site locations; provides instruction and feedback to their student-athletes during practice and competition; assists and supports the head coach with the management of all aspects of the sports program; serves as coach during practices and meets, provides advice on strategy while evaluating player performance and demonstrating proper skills or techniques needed to perform at a high level; carries out administrative assignments in a complete and accurate manner and demonstrates diving techniques to improve performance by student-athletes.
Function: Recruiting Student-Athletes (40%): evaluates and recruits high school players who become superior athletes of high academic standing; entertains prospective recruits and their accompanied family on campus; introduces them to the on-campus amenities and campus life during their tours; makes phone calls, emails, or social media contact within the NCAA guidelines for their respective sport; maintains contact with recruits following their Head Coach’s directive and assigned area of responsibility and monitors the academic performance of certain players as assigned by the head coach.
Function: Sports Camps (5%): assists in directing or directs sport camps as requested or required by the Head Coach; markets and organizes the camps so that they are efficiently run and comply with Athletic Department standards and policies; maintains database of participants; reports all revenue from the camps to the Athletic Business office; monitors the safety and welfare of participants; hires, trains, and monitors camp employees; reports on time and is prepared for all assigned sports camp activities; ensures camp participants are provided sound guidance and direction in accordance with industry-accepted sports protocols; maintains rosters and related documentation regarding sports activities and makes sound recommendations to the Camp Director on improving the camp experience.
Function: Other Duties (5%): performs other duties as requested or required, whether or not specifically mentioned in this job description; exhibits a willingness to undertake additional tasks and asks questions and gathers information as necessary.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2 years of diving coaching experience
OR
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 8 years of diving coaching experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:
- Expertise in the technical aspects of diving springboard and platform
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to take direction from head coach
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with coaches, administrators, student athletes, recruits, and vendors
- Extremely organized, detail oriented, self-starter and intrinsically motivated
- Strong management and leadership skills
- Proven ability to multi-task effectively
- Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
- Proficient computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets
- Availability to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends
- Ability to travel with sport teams for away contests
- Thorough knowledge of NCAA and American conference rules and regulations
- Knowledge of recruiting at a high level of success
- Knowledge of how to facilitate diving meets
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Coaching experience in NCAA Division I Intercollegiate Athletics
- Coaching experience within a dive camp at a high level
NCAA Related:
Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
