Simulation Operations Specialist (SOS) will work with the Senior Simulation Specialist and Operations Manager to support faculty and facilitators in running all simulation education and assessments. The SOS will have primary responsibility to coordinate the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses. The SOS position will be responsible for the set-up, organization, breakdown, and clean-up of the required simulation environment, equipment and supplies for sessions held at the Tulane Sim Center. The SOS will support the Operations team in maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing any computerized manikins, task trainers, simulators and related peripherals.
Competencies to be successful: comfortable with computers, electronic components, medical equipment, technical information, ability to learn new tasks quickly, ability to complete tasks with upfront instruction and minimal ongoing oversight, ability to achieve priorities set by others and to self-prioritize when necessary, and ability to keep timelines and meet deadlines.
Advanced competencies not required, but a plus: clinical understanding or experience, simulation education experience, emergency medicine or trauma experience.
Related experience relevant for this position: simulation operations, simulation education, nursing, prehospital, surgical tech, anesthesia tech, respiratory tech, emergency medicine tech, other allied health, biomedical engineering or information technologist.
• Functional knowledge or experience with the following: - Basic computer hardware operations. - Basic A/V equipment and video recording. • Ability to successfully perform: - Understand technical information, both written and explained by others. - Learn new software and hardware functions quickly. - Assess, troubleshoot and repair equipment failures under guidance of Senior Simulation Specialist, and advance to managing equipment independently. - Work effectively under pressure, able to work based on priorities set by others, and able to handle frequently competing priorities. - Work on projects from start to completion with support and guidance from Senior Simulation Specialist at start and able to manage steps and time schedule to completion with minimal oversight. - Able to effectively communicate with and work with physicians, faculty, staff, residents, medical students, and other healthcare professionals. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Self-motivated • Able to work occasional events or weekends, as required by course schedules. • Work requires occasional heavy lifting of equipment and the utilization of advanced medical devices.
Required Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. • Minimum 3 years’ work experience in in a professional environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree. • Preferred areas of study: any healthcare field, education, technology or biomedical engineering. • Work experience in simulation, healthcare, healthcare education, pre-hospital, emergency room technician, or surgical technician. • Experience supporting ATLS course.
