The Tulane Hayward Genetics Center at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA is seeking a general genetic counselor to join our interdisciplinary team. Candidates will be ABGC-board eligible/certified in Genetic Counseling, with preference for candidates with experience or training in pediatric genetic counseling and education. The successful candidate will join a collegial genetics group in busy local and outreach clinics, a broad array of clinical and educational efforts (medical and graduate students, residents, fellows) within the medical school. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop new clinics as well as participate in educational and research activities.
The Hayward Genetics Center is the major clinical genetic referral center in the Gulf South for over thirty years with a current clinical team of 5 ABMG-certified Clinical Geneticists (including 1 Ob/Gyn geneticist, 1 PhD Geneticist, 1 Clinical Cytogenetics, 2 Clinical Molecular, 1 Clinical Biochemical), 2 ABGC-certified Genetic Counselors, 3 metabolic nutritionists and a newborn screening coordinator. The Tulane Pediatrics department has partnered with the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans (CHNOLA) and their team of a genetic counselor and geneticist. The two teams work together in caring for inpatient and outpatient genetics patients.
Primarily the genetic counselor will see pediatric and adult patients at our outpatient Tulane/CHNOLA and virtual care satellite clinics for a variety of indications. However, they will also provide cancer genetic counseling to the Tulane Cancer Center (in-person/virtual) and the Rapides Cancer Center (virtual care only). The Tulane Hayward Genetics Center is also home to clinical biochemical, cytogenetics and molecular genetics labs. The genetic counselor also works closely with the personnel, fellows and directors of these labs.
This position is a faculty instructor position. In addition to the clinical duties, the candidate is expected to instruct a semester of a master’s level course for our Tulane Hayward Master’s in Medical Genetics and Genomics. They will also provide lectures for medical students and grand rounds for other specialties within the Tulane University School of Medicine. Faculty members also participate in the Graduate Education Committee for the Tulane Hayward Master’s in Medical Genetics and Genomics.

The Hayward Genetics Center at Tulane University Health Sciences Center is an interdepartmental multidisciplinary program providing state-of-the-art service, education, and research in the full spectrum of diagnosis, counseling and management of genetic disorders.
The faculty of the Hayward Genetics Center includes clinical and basic scientists who specialize in the various areas of human genetics. The faculty includes geneticists who are board certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics in all subdisciplines of Medical Genetics (Clinical Genetics, Clinical Biochemical Genetics, Clinical Cytogenetics, Clinical Molecular Genetics and Ph.D. Medical Genetics).
Additional faculty members include research and basic scientists with expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology as well as physicians who are board-certified in various other medical specialties including Maternal/Fetal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Neurology, and Internal Medicine.
The Hayward Genetics Center is accredited as a training program by the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) and is also accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to provide postdoctoral training (years four and five) in M.D. clinical genetics.
