Xavier University of Louisiana is accepting applications for the position of Proposal Writer/Researcher and Prospect Development. The Proposal Writer/Researcher and Prospect Development incumbent will work collaboratively with the IA Team to: (1) conduct prospect and other research in support of key areas of XULA's institutional advancement operation; (2) develop and create written proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, profiles, and other institutional advancement materials. The position is tasked with writing, proofing, and reviewing documents and materials ensuring the utmost in professionalism, accuracy, persuasiveness, and adherence to Xavier University of Louisiana institutional brand standards. The ideal candidate will understand modern principles, methods, and ethics of philanthropy (especially with regard to giving and stewardship) at educational institutions, including strict confidentiality, as well as the ability to analyze, synthesize, and convey complex material in a clear and persuasive manner. The individual must also demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills (i.e., attention to detail) and the ability to effectively multi-task—while also adhering to various deadlines.
In order to perform this role effectively, the candidate must:
Exercise initiative, good judgment, and discretion;
Have capacity to embrace and effectively communicate Xavier's mission and impact to the broader community;
Have a bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a similar field; Master's degree or higher preferred.
Have at least five (5) years of progressive experience in a non-profit, private high school, or university development role (or similar field);
Possess outstanding writing and verbal communication skills;
Possess knowledge of Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge or similar institutional advancement software/systems;
Have a cheerful, professional demeanor with coworkers, donors, volunteers, trustees, and university faculty/administration;
Be entrepreneurial, goal-oriented, and proactive;
Have a superior knowledge and command of Microsoft Office Suite software; and
Demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills; and
Possess the ability work in a flexible but fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Xavier University of Louisiana, founded by St. Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in 1925, is Catholic and historically Black.
