POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director for NCAA Compliance is a key member of the department, reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance. The position interacts and collaborates with student-athletes, coaches, staff, and other Tulane University constituents to ensure shared responsibility and an effective culture of compliance. The Assistant Director of NCAA Compliance implements and consistently improves upon Tulane’s comprehensive NCAA compliance program to ensure policies, procedures and protocols of the Athletics Compliance Department are effectively ensuring the integrity of Tulane’s Intercollegiate Athletics Program. The Assistant Director also assists the Compliance Office staff with the daily activities of the athletics department to ensure compliance with NCAA, American Athletic Conference, and University bylaws, rules, regulations and policies. The Assistant Director will monitor recruiting programs, approve expense reports, and oversee the National Letter of Intent program. Additionally, this position will provide oversight of practice and competition logs and as well as maintaining student files in the Front Rush roster program. In the capacity, this role functions as integral part of the NCAA Compliance team.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. The compliance office’s recruiting monitoring program, which includes monitoring all recruiting logs and official/unofficial visits, approving all business office expense reports from coaches and recruiting/scouting services. (25%) 2. Coordinate, implement, improve upon monitoring policies and procedures as they relate to Bylaws 13 & 17. (10%) 3. Coordinate the monitoring of the following: student-athlete employment, student-athlete equipment and apparel issuance and retrieval, student-athlete time demands. (10%) 4. Administering and overseeing the National Letter of Intent program. (10%) 5. Monitoring and maintaining playing and practice season information for all sports; monitoring all practice and competition logs. (10%) 6. Coordinates monitoring of all institutional camps and clinics, and coaches and staff participating in non-institutional camps and clinics. Coordinates and improves upon camp & clinic policies and procedures. (10%) 7. Updating student-athlete files; assigning and monitoring student-athlete information and compliance forms in Front Rush. Managing all sport rosters, including the tryout process for all sports. (10%) 8. Assisting with NCAA/AAC waivers, NCAA interpretation research, and rules education meetings. (10%) 9. NCAA Related: Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Bachelor’s Degree and one (1) year of full NCAA compliance experience. OR 2. High School Diploma and six (6) years of NCAA compliance experience, of which two have been in an higher education institution.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:
Candidate should possess excellent written and oral communication skills; attention to detail; excellent computer skills; demonstrated knowledge of NCAA compliance rules and regulations; basic knowledge, understanding and adherence of NCAA, conference and University rules and guidelines.
Ability to collaborate effectively with various departments and constituencies.
Strong communication, management, and analysis skills to enhance operations productivity and efficiency.
Ability to demonstrate initiative and organize activities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master’s degree and two years of NCAA compliance experience 2. Experience using NCAA systems, Front Rush, and Teamworks
