The Jefferson Chamber of Commerce in Metairie, LA is conducting a search for their next President. The Search Committee is seeking a candidate with a proven track record of leading organizations and community initiatives, developing relationships with business leaders and elected officials, fundraising, and demonstrated knowledge of standards and best practices for business development and growth. Experience with membership-driven organizations or associations is a plus. The President reports to the Board of Directors and prepares an annual budget for their approval.
The Jefferson Chamber’s mission is to work for the advancement of the business community; to enhance the economic, civic, and cultural environment; and to improve the quality of life in Jefferson Parish. What started in 1997 with a few people with some great ideas, has transformed into the premier business organization of the Parish and one of the leaders in our region. Today, the Jefferson Chamber represents more than 900 companies in working to improve the business climate and creating business initiatives and opportunities in the Greater New Orleans region.
The Jefferson Chamber will celebrate 25 years of promoting business interests and quality of life issues in 2022. Funded by private investments, the Jefferson Chamber remains committed to advocating for a better, more prosperous business climate. The organization works in tandem with the Jefferson Chamber Foundation and the Jefferson Chamber Political Action Committee (PAC) to further its mission. The President of the Chamber also serves as the Executive Director of both the Foundation and the PAC, reporting to three different boards with three different financial and legal structures.
Candidates applying for the President’s position must hold a bachelor’s degree, ideally with an MBA or other post-graduate work from an accredited college, or equivalent experience in the area(s) of association management, public relations, business and/or marketing, communications, or similar field(s). Candidate should have at least five years of leadership/management experience in the business, government or non-profit sector, or a combination of these.
Out of 7,000+ organizations, the Jefferson Chamber is one of only 219 chambers to receive five-star accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Jefferson Chamber has also received three State Chamber of the Year honors from the Louisiana Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (LACCE) within the past 9 years. In 2018, the Louisiana Association of Business & Industry (LABI), the largest business organization in the state, named the Jefferson Chamber the Economic Development Partner of the Year. Over the past 10 years, the organization has increased its membership and revenue by over 35%.
Working with partners at JEDCO, GNO, Inc, the Regional Planning Commission and others focused on economic development, the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce will continue to have significant influence, impacting legislation, planning, and “big picture” thinking.
