The Department of Mass Communications at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for a full-time one-year visiting assistant professor position beginning August 2021. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Mass Communications. The department is particularly interested in a visiting professor with a background in teaching digital media.
The successful applicant will teach four classes per semester and will be able to teach traditional mass communication courses. The ability and willingness to work collegially with a 4-4 teaching load are essential. Ideal candidates should also have the ability to teach face-to-face as well as online classes. Applications are encouraged from applicants with a strong background in any current or emerging areas of digital media ranging from web content creation, social media, web design, graphic design, and other digital production skills.
The Department of Mass Communication offers all levels of instruction for undergraduates and concentrations in Multimedia and Strategic Communications/Public Relations. The Department also supports an active Student Media program that creates content in news and entertainment across media platforms, publishes the university yearbook, and has active student chapters of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, minimizing barriers, and increasing equity and completion rates between members of different demographic groups.

Xavier University of Louisiana, founded by St. Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in 1925, is Catholic and historically Black.
