About Louisiana State University Health New Orleans
The mission of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) is to provide education, research, and public service through direct patient care and community outreach. LSUHSC-NO comprises the Schools of Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Graduate Studies, Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health.
LSUHSC-NO educational programs prepare students for careers as health care professionals and scientists. The Health Sciences Center disseminates and advances knowledge through State and national programs of basic and clinical research, resulting in publications, technology transfer, and related economic enhancements to meet the changing needs of the State of Louisiana and the nation.
LSUHSC-NO provides vital public service through direct patient care, including care of indigent and uninsured patients. Health care services are provided through LSUHSC-NO clinics in allied health, dentistry, medicine, nursing, and in numerous affiliated hospitals and clinics throughout Louisiana.
LSUHSC-NO provides referral services, continuing education, and information relevant to the public health of the citizens of Louisiana. In addition, LSUHSC-NO works cooperatively w...ith two Area Health Education Centers (AHECs), whose programs focus on improving the number and distribution of health care providers in underserved rural and urban areas of Louisiana and on supporting existing rural health care providers through continuing education programs.

The Department Head for Family Medicine will oversee the faculty, staff and residents in the Department of Family Medicine to advance the educational, clinical and research missions of the department and the School of Medicine. This includes faculty and residents in New Orleans/Kenner, Bogalusa, Lafayette, and Lake Charles, and faculty in Baton Rouge. The Department Head will report directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine and work closely with the leadership at our regional campuses. Incumbent will also work closely with leadership at our partnering clinical facilities including Kenner Regional Medical Center, University Medical Center – New Orleans, University Hospital and Clinics, Our Lady of Angels, Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, and other hospitals and clinics at which the department faculty provide clinical services. The department head will also work with associate and assistant deans to ensure high quality educational experiences for students and residents. There are opportunities to collaborate with other clinical and basic science department heads and with directors of our multidisciplinary centers of excellence.
