The Department of Speech Pathology at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for a tenure track position in speech-language pathology at the assistant professor level beginning August 2021. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology with a focus on areas related to both adult and pediatric populations including fluency, speech science, anatomy and physiology, research methodology, and other areas of speech-language pathology will be considered.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduate and graduate students; a record of research-related activities (e.g., scholarly presentations, research publications, grant writing); and dedication to providing training and services relating to culturally and linguistically diverse populations. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide clinical supervision and support to HBCU undergraduate and graduate students through academic advising as well as mentorship. The university is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and who have demonstrated a commitment to improving access to higher education, enhancing equity and social justice.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses each year, including but not limited to, communication sciences and disorders. Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, remote, and/or any combination thereof.
Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
Conduct research in the area of expertise and participate in related scholarly activities.
Supervise undergraduate and graduate students in clinical practicum.
Participate in service activities for the department, university, and community.
Other duties as assigned by Department Chairperson.
Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology (i.e., D., or Ed.D.) (conferred by the time of appointment);
Current ASHA Certifications (CCC-SLP);
Eligible for Louisiana state licensure in speech-language pathology, with active license expected by the start date;
At least nine months of full-time clinical experience after the CCC-SLP;
Commitment to developing an active research program within the area of the applicant's expertise;
Conduct ongoing, independent research resulting in scholarly publications and/or successful grant proposals;
Commitment to academic advising for majors within the department;
Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population;
Demonstrated ability and willingness to work collegially; and
Commitment to the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana
About our Department and the Position
The Department of Speech Pathology offers an undergraduate major and minor in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. In the department of Speech Pathology, undergraduate seniors have the opportunity to enroll in two semesters of clinical practica and graduate students enroll in clinical practica each semester of enrollment. Xavier encourages cross-disciplinary collaborations with faculty from various areas, including biology, chemistry, public health, neuroscience, and psychology.
