POSITION SUMMARY: Performs highly complex laboratory testing to provide data for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Must have practical knowledge of Cytology Laboratory theory and specimen processing techniques. Familiar with CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, CMS and OSHA regulatory standards. Ability to retrieve and analyze data to complete statistical reports required by various accreditation agencies. POSITION DUTIES: • Screening and Technical Responsibilities: Provides diagnostic screening and interpretation and processes gynecological, non-gynecological and fine needle aspiration (FNA) specimens. Assists in the collection of FNAs. • Participates in regulatory activities. Performs routine quality control on gynecological specimens, as CLIA required. Performs all quality controls activities including instrument maintenance in the processing laboratory. Adheres to all the regulatory standards and assists the Lead Cytotechnologist/Manager to ensure the lab is in compliance with regulatory agencies. Updates procedures, retrieves data and completes statistical reports. Adheres to the documentation and specimen screening workload limits. Maintains analytical and processing competency. Retrieves/files slides and reports as needed. • Contributes to the Performance Improvement (PI) plan of the lab by adhering to the accepted turnaround time targets. Retrieves data to complete various PI reports. Communicates service, testing and safety problems to the lead Cytotechnologist/manager and initiates corrective action, as needed. Skills: Professional knowledge in gynecological, non-gynecological and fine needle aspiration Cytology and specimen processing techniques. Clear understanding of accreditation requirements. Ability to work independently, prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Good customer relations and communication skills. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Education: Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the life science fields---as evidence by current Louisiana license as a Cytotechnologist. Experience: Required: None Preferred: 3 years experience in a Cytology Laboratory. License/Certification: Must be licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as a Cytotechnologist. |
