The Department of Psychology at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology for the 2021-2022 academic year. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in an area of Applied Psychology, specific specialization within Applied Psychology is open. The Department of Psychology offers all levels of instruction for undergraduate students in two majors (Psychological Science and Psychology Premedical) and one interdisciplinary program (Neuroscience). The ideal candidate will demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduate students. Teaching responsibilities include but or not limited to courses in the research sequence (Research Methods, Psychological Statistics, and Advanced Research), and existing courses related to their area of expertise. The candidate is expected to contribute to the expansion of the program via the development of new courses and to be willing to teach core courses that fall within their area of expertise. Ideal candidates will focus on high-quality teaching, maintain an active research program that involves students, and participate in service related to the department, college, and university. Ability and willingness to work collegially within a 4 -4 teaching load is essential. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, minimizing barriers, and increasing equity and completion rates between members of different demographic groups. About our Department and the Position The Department of Psychology at Xavier University of Louisiana strives to provide its students with a thorough foundation in the methodology of contemporary psychology. Students completing the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science and are prepared both for graduate study in psychology and related fields and for career opportunities in psychology and other areas at the bachelor’s degree level. The Program offers three tracks-Psychological Science, for students pursuing graduate school or careers applying their degree; Psychology Premedical, for students pursuing medical school or graduate training in health fields, or careers in related areas at the bachelor’s level; Neuroscience for students pursuing graduate training in neuroscience, medical school or other professional health programs, or careers in related areas at the bachelor’s level. The Department of Psychology shares the University's Mission and supports it by preparing students to critically apply the science of psychology to understand themselves and others in a diverse and dynamic world. The departmental goal is to prepare Xavier students for careers that are impactful through leadership and service.
