Full Time | 3 month position | Non-Exempt

Position Summary

St. George’s is seeking an experienced middle school educator to cover a maternity leave in the Middle School History Department starting February 1, 2021 through April 30, 2021. This teacher would follow unit guides and textbook resources to plan and teach two sections of 6th Grade World History and two sections of 8th Grade American History following an alternating block schedule. He/She will report directly to the Director of Middle School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver lessons specific to World History and U.S. History classes
• Anticipated units for 6th-grade World History include: Ancient China, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Rome
• Anticipated units for 8th-grade U.S. History include: The Great Depression, World War II, and the Cold War
• Grade assignments and assessments and enter data into school gradebook software
• Participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences; effectively communicate students’ progress and needs with parents and teaching team 
• Meet deadlines and adhere to a daily schedule, and structure classes to maximize opportunities for student learning
• Guide classroom behavior through respect and a positive approach 
• Collaborate with other teachers to regularly support students’ educational needs
• Supervise students during Morning Break recess, Lunch, Lunch recess, and Dismissal
• Moderate students in small-group advisory program during lunch break daily

Qualification Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education, History, or another related field
• At least two years of experience working with children
• Philosophy that focuses on hands-on, student-centered learning 
• Proficiency with Google Apps and technology-based educational tools
• Ability to work well in a team and collaborate 
• Outstanding organizational and time management skills
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills which prove effective in communicating with parents and establishing a team approach with the child’s family
• A sense of integrity, ethics and ability to carry out responsibilities in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures
