Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy PGY-1 Residency Program
Xavier University of Louisiana
Xavier University of Louisiana’s Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency program provides residents the opportunity to practice primarily in ambulatory care sites. The major emphasis of the program will be placed on the development of clinical practice skills that can be applied to pharmacist-managed, interdisciplinary, or managed care team approaches to patient care. While practicing in ambulatory care sites is the main focus, residents must complete a required internal medicine and drug information rotations. Two elective rotations in areas ranging from Critical Care to Outpatient Oncology are also incorporated into the program (full listing of elective opportunities below). In order to prepare residents for opportunities in academia and beyond, the program offers a teaching certificate program, as well as, didactic and experiential teaching. Opportunities will also be available for the residents to participate in outcomes research with Xavier’s Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities Research and Education (CMHHDRE). Upon completion of this program, the resident will be able to assume a clinical position in an ambulatory clinic, hospital setting or a faculty position in academia.
