The purpose of the job is to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care based on standards of care and the policies of UMC. The RN delegates to professional and non-professional personnel involved in the delivery of patient care.
Education: Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program required; BSN preferred
Experience: Oncology Experience required; Clinic Experience referred
Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others. Performs job duties and department specific assignments, safely, effectively, and efficiently.
Utilizes the nursing process to deliver patient care. Problem recognition and management of a potential risk to the patient's health, and initiates action to correct, reduce or prevent the risk. Seeks supervision/consultation assistance when unable to perform effectively, safely or independently.
Communicates with the MD on patient's behalf for resolution of patient issues.
Implements patient teaching utilizing adult education principles and various instructional aides.
Provides direct quality care to patient requiring complex nursing intervention while incorporating psychological considerations in the plan of care.
Delegates safely and appropriately to other team members to accomplish direct patient care or support activities. Decision based upon the acuity/complexity of activity and the competency of recipient.
Initiative IVs. Access port-a-caths, provide site care and maintenance. PICC lines: provide site care and maintenance.
Administer medications as ordered via IV or Injections. Must be knowledgeable of the medications/side effects being administered.
Must perform job duties independently. Displays good judgement when making decisions.
Supports administrative efforts to improve nursing practice and performance.
